World Heath Organization (WHO) Representative in Egypt John Jabbour said Egypt is among the first countries in the world to develop protection and prevention programs against Hepatitis C virus (HCV).
These remarks were made on Thursday during a seminar on Egypt’s HCV combat efforts, sponsored by the Egyptian Ministry of Health.
Jabbour noted the good care given to hepatitis C patients in Egypt which is known to have the highest prevalence rate of hepatitis C in the world.
He also praised how the patients are being offered treatment at a very low cost price.
The WHO set up a database to link all the patients’ data and treatment centers, he noted, pointing out that the organization is working with the local and foreign partners and the World Bank to counter the virus.
Jabbour also said that the organization supports Egypt in carrying out its safe injection programs.
He lauded the new Comprehensive Health Insurance Law describing it as an important turning point in Egypt’s history in the field of health care.
