The fourth meeting of the Higher Coordination Committee on Arab Literacy Decade kicked off on Monday at the Arab League’s premises.
The two-day talks bring together officials of Arab education ministries, the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), as well as experts and representatives of civil society organizations concerned with literacy in the Arab world.
Participants in the meeting will review the implementation of recommendations issued by the third meeting on the Arab Literacy Decade that was held on April 19, 2017, in addition to the media plan for the Arab Decade for Literacy.
The Arab Literacy Decade (2015 – 2024) was proclaimed pursuant to a resolution (No. 636) adopted by the 26th Arab Summit, which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh on March 29, 2015, on the adoption of the Arab Decade for Literacy and Adult Education (2015 – 2024) with the aim of eradicating illiteracy in all its forms (alphabetical, digital and cultural) all over the Arab world.
