Preparatory meetings of the 101st round of talks of the Arab League (AL) Social and Economic Council kicked off here on Sunday at the premises of the AL General Secretariat.
Sudan replaced Saudi Arabia in presiding over a preparatory meeting of the council’s social committee.
AL Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the AL Ambassador Badr el Dine Alali said the meeting probed a number of topics, including the preparation of the economic and social file to be reviewed at the 29th Arab Summit, slated for March in Saudi Arabia, and the discussion of a Jordanian proposal on the establishment of a higher council for population and development in Arab states.
Also, the talks touched on the resolutions of the 37th session of the Council of Arab Social Affairs’ Ministers, which was held in November in Kuwait, and ways to boost Arab international cooperation in social and development areas, as well as fostering cooperation between the AL and the UN with regard to social aspects, he added.
It welcomed a request by Lebanon to host the 4th Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, due in 2019. (MENA)
