Head of the State Information Service Diaa Rashwan Tuesday called on all Egyptian officials, public figures and intellectuals to boycott the BBC and refrain from giving an interviews to its correspondents and editors until it officially apologizes and posts the reply of SIS on the report it published a couple of days ago which included false news about conditions in Egypt.
A statement released by SIS said the boycott, however, does not deny the right of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) or other foreign media outlets accredited in Egypt to obtain information.
Rashwan has assigned the foreign correspondents press center to take necessary measures against the BBC office in Cairo to follow up the implementation of the decision in conformity with the rules applied on correspondents in Egypt.
The SIS call for boycotting the BBC is based on its responsibility toward Egypt’s image in international media and commitment to professional rules and standards of the press and media, the statement read.(MENA)
