Security agencies monitoring the media detected incitement by the Qatari news channel, Al-Jazeera, for members of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood movement in Egypt to spoil the country’s presidential vote, which will kick off on Monday.
The channel, security sources said Saturday, instigates Muslim Brotherhood affiliates to attack state institutions and policemen to destabilize Egypt.
The same sources told Al-Bawaba News that Al-Jazeera had aired reports to encourage Muslim Brotherhood members in Egypt to foment strife, even as it is banned in Egypt.
Al-Jazeera is known for its hostility to the Egyptian leadership and people. It is also known for supporting Muslim Brotherhood leaders. It keeps running false news about Egypt.
The security sources called for increasing citizens’ awareness and advised ordinary Egyptians to verify the identity of journalists they meet on the streets to prevent the spread of rumors and fabricated films.
The northern coastal city of Alexandria was the scene of a failed attempt on the life of its security chief, Mustafa al-Nimr, on Saturday. Al-Nimr’s convoy was targeted with an explosive device. He emerged from the blast unharmed, but a police conscript was killed, while four ordinary people, who happened to be at the site of the bombing, were injured.
