The former French President Nicolas Sarkozy is under investigation by the French judicial police over the suspected illegal financing of his campaign for the 2007 presidential election, French media reported on Tuesday.
The French newspaper Le Monde said: “For the first time, Nicolas Sarkozy has been questioned in this case since the opening of a judicial investigation in April 2013, indicating that the detention of Sarkozy under investigation could last 48 hours.”

The former president has denied accusations, but one of the closest aide for Seif al-Islam Gaddafi, who was an eyewitness to the operations behind closed doors, confirmed that the financing of his country for the presidential campaign in France, was through businessmen close to Sarkozy.
From his side, Sarkozy said these accusations were “retaliatory steps” by members of the former Libyan regime who were angry for leading a military intervention that ended Gaddafi’s rule.
Taqi al-Din said he handed over the money directly to Sarkozy’s interior ministry at the time, noting that he was carrying a bag containing nearly two million euros with 200 and 500 euro notes. He also added Abdullah al-Sunoussi, the head of Qadhafi’s intelligence, gave him the money.
