President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his wife on Wednesday attended a celebration for honoring the ideal mother on the occasion marking the Mother’s Day.
Attending also were Prime Minister Sherif Ismail, Minister of Defense Colonel General Sedki Sobhi and Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali along with Grand Imam of Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el Tayyeb and Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria.
Several other ministers and statesmen were present.
Head of the National Council for Women Maya Morsy said during the celebration that the Egyptian woman is a peacemaker.
The Egyptian woman, army and police are the defense lines for Egypt’s safety and security, she added.
She also expressed, on behalf of the Egyptian women, all appreciation for President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Morsy further thanked the president for declaring 2017 the year of women.
She further commended the political leadership in Egypt for issuing legislation protecting the rights of Egyptian women.
A documentary for the biggest campaign for empowering women in Egypt “Egyptian Women Can” was played.
The documentary is addressing all segments of the Egyptian society educating them on the rights of women to political participation and education.
The campaign also addresses the problem of sexual harassment.
The documentary asserted that supporting Egyptian women started with directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to declare 2017 the year of Egyptian women.
Minister of Planning and Administrative Reform Hala Saeed said that women are the pillars of the Egyptian society.
She further noted that the status of Egyptian women today and their gains reflect how far the State is aware of the importance of women as a major factor for realizing positive changes through empowering her at the social, economic and political levels.
The past few years have seen remarkable participation by women at all decision making levels, she further noted, adding that in 2016, Egypt has launched its strategy for achieving sustainable development.
The Egyptian woman is an important partner in the economic development process, added the minister.
Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali said that today’s celebration is an evidence that the president appreciates Egyptian women.
On March 2017, it was announced that one million Egyptian women have obtained financial support as part of “Solidarity and Dignity” program, she said.
“Today, we announce that the figure hit 2.1 million Egyptian women”, she pointed out, adding that the move cost around 881 million pounds per month.
Protectionist programs also include monthly pensions for around 200,000 divorced, widows and jailed wives, she added.
The state also spends 43 million pounds per months to support divorced women whose former husbands reject supporting them. Up to 300,000 persons are benefiting from this program, she added. (MENA)
