Qatari media is stepping up its campaign against the government of Sudan, depending on rumors.
Over the past days, the Qatari news channel, al-Jazeera, propagated false news about the Sudanese government. It intensified its campaign against Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Al-Jazeera claimed earlier that former Sudanese intelligence chief, Salah Abdullah Gosh, had met some Israeli intelligence officials on the sidelines of the Munich security forum.
It said Gosh agreed with the Israeli intelligence officials to take over in Sudan, after the downfall of the Omar al-Bashir regime in the African country.
This prompted an official statement by the Sudanese intelligence which belied the report of the Qatari channel.
It said the news was totally baseless and called on al-Jazeera to verify information before propagating it.
Qatari media also claimed that al-Burhan seeks escalation in Yemen.
It is important to note that the Qatari media campaign against Sudan started soon after the downfall of the al-Bashir regime on April 11, 2019.
Sudanese citizens consider, meanwhile, the same campaign as interference in the affairs of their country.
Political science professor at Cairo University, Mohamed Hussein, accused Qatar of using its media to tarnish the reputation of Arab governments and create political crises in Arab countries.
“Sudan is one of the countries targeted by Qatar now,” Hussein told The Reference. “It aims at destabilizing this state to serve the best interests of the Muslim Brotherhood organization.”
Hussein noted that Qatar would not stop propagating rumors and lies about Sudan and its government.
He said al-Jazeera had been trying to bring al-Bashir down since 2007.
Now, he said, the channel wants the Muslim Brotherhood to take over in Sudan.
“This is why it will not suspend its campaign against the Sudanese government,” Hussein said.
