Nahla Abdel Moneim
Like other countries, Algeria suffers from the spread of the coronavirus epidemic. On March 12, 2020, the country recorded the first death from the virus. The domestic suffering from the epidemic has been increasing both economically and politically.
At a time when the strongest and most successful regimes needed everyone to stand together to confront the danger currently facing all humanity, some sought to achieve their own interest in ascending to power, and at the head of these groups, the Brotherhood represented in the Peace Society Movement (Hamas) remains one of the most prominent opportunistic political currents on the scene.
Coronavirus and economic crisis
The coronavirus, with its multiple preventive measures, has confused the global market and caused a major tremor in the economy that affected everyone and the impact is likely to extend.
Many countries have closed their doors to shrink their basic returns from tourism and other activities. As for the situation in Algeria, in financial terms it is natural that the state is affected by what is going on in the international community as a member of it, but the Brotherhood members have devoted their websites and social media pages to attacking the state’s economic situation.
The official page of Hamas posted on Facebook the video clip of the head of the parliamentary bloc, Mahdi Zantout, through which he attacked the state and accused it of underestimating the economic effects of coronavirus, saying that (if the economy is strong, it will not be affected by any tremors, but it is basically weak).
Zantout also pointed to the decline in oil prices, which will affect the internal economy, pointing out that the government does not have any will to improve conditions, as it is better to seek to arrange its conditions without looking outside, promoting that the virus and its consequences are nothing but mere biological warfare.
Consolidated speech
As for the national secretary responsible for media and communication with the Brotherhood movement, Abu Abdullah bin Ajamieh said that the coronavirus continues to spread significantly in the country and is still spreading, indicating that the government is always interfering late in its response to protect the people from the virus, because it does not have a real political will to prevent the spread of the disease.
The Secretary stressed that the Algerian economy will be severely affected by the consequences of the virus, because the government possesses money, media and security and all institutions, but it is slow-willed in dealing with the pandemic and does not impose strict measures.
