Cairo governorate is racing against time to finalize ongoing housing projects to relocate inhabitants of dangerous squat areas to safer and decent residential areas in implementation of directives by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Cairo Governor Atef Abdel Hamid said Wednesday.
The governorate has a comprehensive vision and plans to eliminate first and second-degree dangerous zones through an all-out program to establish projects to move the inhabitants to these areas and re-plan the dangerous areas in the best way possible, he said in a statement.
The projects, whose cost exceeds EGP 12 billion, include more than 62,000 housing units with their necessary utilities to create a stable life for the inhabitants including schools, day care centers, service offices, courtyards, mosques, churches, markets, stores and others, he added.
By the end of 2018, Cairo will be void of unsafe areas with the settling of some 320,000 citizens in safe places, he said.(MENA)
