The Criminal Court today sentenced 17 Muslim brotherhoods members, to 25 years imprisonments, 223 others to 15 years, 22 more to 3 years as well as 115 acquittals. All were accused in El-Nahda events, that led to the damages in buildings; the zoo, Giza governorate, Faculty of Engineering and the Orman Park.
The judgment also forced all convicted persons to pay the damages they incurred. They were obliged to pay 137 thousand pounds for the zoo, 2 million pounds for the Orman Park, 10 million pounds for Giza governorate and 25 million pounds for the Faculty of Engineering.
The former Attorney General Hisham Barakat referred the defendants in the case to the criminal trial, which they were charged with demonstrating, forming an armed gang, premeditated murder, bullying, resisting the authorities by force and violence, disrupting transportation, arrest and detention of people, possession and acquisition of firearms, ammunition, explosives, holding white weapons and instruments, whose crimes have been committed for the purpose of terrorism.
Investigations by the Public Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the accused members of the Muslim Brotherhood organized the armed sit-in and carried out armed marches to several places that attacked the citizens and resulted in the deaths of citizens and police.
During the investigation, Public Prosecutor listened to 72 witnesses from the citizens, officials, and the police forces participating in ending the sit-in, who denied the peaceful of the sit-in, stressing that it was an armed once.
The videotapes attached to the investigations revealed the presence of numerous heavily armed protesters with firearms and firing shots toward the police from various locations around the sit-in.
