The decision of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Australian National Imams Council to appoint a female member within its board is significant, given the Brotherhood’s low view of women in general.
The council said in early March that it would found a new consultative committee on women.
The new committee, it said, would focus on the issues of women.
As a development, the formation of the new committee bucks a Muslim Brotherhood trend, favoring the presence of women at home for the upbringing of the children.
This was why the formation of the new committee was viewed as a new Muslim Brotherhood attempt to gain presence among women in Australia.

The Muslim Brotherhood views women as inferior to men. The group believes that women’s place is at home where they are responsible for bringing up the children.
This is why the Muslim Brotherhood never grants a full member status to women. It only gives them the status of “associates,” which is a lot less important than the status of members.
Associates swear allegiance to the group and are never consulted about important decisions or issues. This was true to all female members of the group, including Zeinab al-Ghazali, a heavy weight member of the Islamist group for years.
She details her allegiance to Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna in her memoirs. She said she swore allegiance to al-Banna one day when both of them were on the road to a seminar.
