The Brotherhood has played a suspicious role during the recent events and conflicts in the United States. In the wake of the bloody riots and violence that followed the killing of George Floyd, the Brotherhood’s presence on the scene was noticeable, using its Islamic societies and councils in America to exploit the situation for group’s interests.
AMC
The United States is one of major countries that embrace Brotherhood centers, including a number of Islamic organizations that are controlled by the terrorist organization, such as the American Muslim Council (AMC).
AMC recently appeared on the scene again to talk about the death of Floyd, an African-American man who was killed by a white police officer in the state of Minnesota. AMC exploited the situation to ignite sedition among American citizens by using the racism card.
The council is registered as a charitable Islamic organization in the United States, founded by Abdurahman Alamoudi in 1990 with the support of the Brotherhood. Alamoudi had also headed the Islamic Society of Boston (ISB). The council then reorganized itself and moved its headquarters from Washington to Chicago, Illinois.
AMC was a member of the American Muslim Political Coordination Council (AMPCC), as well as the American Muslim Alliance (AMA), the Council American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC). It frequently worked to coordinate with members of other organizations and organized a number of activities in the United States.
Despite the Brotherhood’s strong presence abroad, a number of its entities no longer exist. AMC had faded from the scene, especially following Alamoudi’s arrest on accusations of terrorist involvement in 2004, after it had participated in defending Palestinian Islamic Jihad member Sami Al-Arian in South Florida, who was charged by the US government with involvement in terrorist activities.
Malicious intent
The international Brotherhood organization has managed to control a number of important mosques and centers abroad, including the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE), whose membership exceeds 1,000.
According to the European Center for Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Studies, these centers such as AMC, MPAC, and the others were intended to be used as a means for the existence of Islamic currents such as Salafism, but conflicts erupted between different Islamic currents from abroad in an attempt to control these centers. However, the Brotherhood was able to impose control of over 70% of these centers.
The Brotherhood worked from behind the curtain to take control of these centers and attract new members who are able to provide the organization with its needed financial support, as well as to penetrate universities, where the Brotherhood is rampant among teaching staff.
The group took advantage of these Islamic centers to seize foreign funds for its own benefit and to sponsor terrorist elements fleeing abroad.
In a previous statement to the Reference, Saeed Sadiq, a professor of political sociology at the American University in Cairo, said that the Brotherhood’s goal is to exploit any political or humanitarian movement for its own benefit later, by supporting certain groups at times of crisis in order to gain their support for future political maneuvers.
