Cairo – The cabinet has agreed to develop a policy regulating Egyptians living abroad, according to Nabila Makram, minister of Immigration and Expatriate Affairs.
The new policy is expected to develop a nuanced and broad approach to efficiently address the problems of the Egyptians working and living abroad.
The Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Ministry of Immigration are currently drafting a law that regulates the legal status of Egyptian organizations abroad. The registration of Egyptians living abroad would depend on them taking part in direct elections or reporting a portfolio of achievements, Makram pointed out.
Makram is to lead an Egyptian delegation of parliamentarians heading towards Australia on Thursday. The visit aims to foster fraternal relations between Egypt and the Australian parliament as per recommendations of the “Egypt Can Do It” conference, which was held on July 2-3.
The Egyptian delegation is also scheduled to meet with representatives of Egyptian communities in Australia.
