Cairo – A new book has been released in Cairo on the latest uprising in Arab world. some delighted to call it ‘Arab Spring’. Ambassador Dr. Abeer Bassiouny has recently published her latest book titled: Revolutions of the Nations: Egypt’s contemporary Revolutions: its regional and international repercussions. The book is currently on exhibition at Cairo International Book Fair.
The book reviews the contemporary uprisings in the Arab world, especially Egypt whose contemporary revolutions have had far-reaching impacts on the fabric of its society. The book highlights the backdrop of Egypt’s contemporary revolutions in addition to characteristics of Arab revolutions, indicating the impact of revolutions on reality and politics in Egypt and Arab world. The book also speculates on the side effects of the revolutions on the future of Arabs, regionally and internationally.
Arab Spring was a revolutionary wave of both violent and non-violent demonstrations, protests, riots, coups and civil wars in the Arab world that began on 17 December 2010 in Tunisia with the Tunisian Revolution, and spread throughout the countries of the Arab League and its surroundings.
Major insurgencies and civil wars in Iraq, Libya, Syria, and Yemen resulted, along with civil uprisings in Bahrain and Egypt, large street demonstrations in Algeria, Iran, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Oman and Sudan and minor protests in Djibouti, Mauritania, the Palestinian territories, Saudi Arabia, Somalia and the Western Sahara.
Bassiouny writes a regular column for the Diplomatic Newspaper which is issued by the Egyptian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She has several published articles for both Arabic and English Journals such as ‘the international Politics’, ‘Harvard International Relations’, Global Politics Magazine, and American Diplomacy magazine.

Abeer Bassiouny Radwan is a diplomat, currently posted to Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Oslo, Norway as Deputy Chief of mission. She has been employed by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1995. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science from the Cairo University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a focus on Information Technology and Management from the Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands, as well as a second Master’s Degree in Political Science with a focus on International Relations and Humanitarian Intervention from Cairo University, and a doctorate from Cairo University in International Relations with a focus on International Organizations.
