(MENA) – Speaker of the Arab Parliament Meshal al Salmi said on Monday that Guatemala’s recent decision to move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was a result of US pressure on countries with which it has certain economic interests.
Al Salmi said the decision will change nothing on the ground, adding that the Arab Parliament has a joint plan together with regional and international parliaments, and permanent member states of the UN Security Council, to fend off US decision recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, according to WAFA News Agency on Monday.
“We have seen the will of the international community represented in the rejection of the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the occupation’s capital, as well as the international rejection to change the status of Jerusalem as an occupied city,” al Salmi said following a meeting with Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League.
