Al Azhar is preparing for holding an international conference for backing Al Quds on January 17-18.
The conference will discuss means to deal with the recent US decision on recognizing Al Quds as the capital of Israel and moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to it and mull practical steps to support the Arab and Palestinian identity of the holy city.
Al Azhar has already sent invitations to senior Muslim and Christian scholars and men of religion along with political and cultural figures concerned with the Palestinian cause from all over the world to attend the two-day event.
The US decision on Al-Quds has been met by strong angry reactions from most of the countries around the world and Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb took a series of decisions in response to it including refusing to meet US Vice President Mike Pence on December 20. (MENA)
