Egypt’s Defense Minister SedqiSobhi arrived in Nicosia on Tuesday for an official visit at the invitation of Cypriot Defence Minister ChristophorosFokaides, according to an Egyptian military press release.
Sobhi is scheduled to hold discussions with top Cypriot officials and military commanders, aiming to enhance bilateral military cooperation between the armed forces of the two nations, Egyptian military spokesman Colonel Tamer El-Refaay said.
The visit continues efforts at bilateral military cooperation, which has been growing in recent years. In March 2016, the Cypriot defence minister visited Egypt, signing a military cooperation agreement with his Egyptian counterpart.
In November this year, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi visited Nicosia, meeting with his counterpart NicosAnastasiades and signing several memorandums of understanding in the fields of security, communication, medicine and business.
El-Sisi said military cooperation between Egypt and Cyprus had been growing since an agreement signed in 2015.
“Terrorism is still a danger that threatens the people of the region and humanity, and requires unified efforts by all countries, because the safety and security of citizens is a human right,” El-Sisi said at the time
