Mukhtar Ghobashi, the head of think tank, Arab Center for Political and Strategic Studies, said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan tries to bring back the past glories of what he described as the “Ottoman caliphate”.
Turkish interference in the Arab region, he said, comes against the background of Arab weaknesses.
“This is why regional and international powers race against each other to steal the wealth of the Arabs,” Ghobashi said.
Arab weaknesses, he told al-Bawaba News, give the chance to the US to exploit Arab states, to Russia to interfere in the Syrian conflict and then have presence in Yemen and Libya and also to Iran to influence regional affairs.
He said these weaknesses create loopholes that are used by these international powers to have presence in the region at the end of the day.
