Fierce clashes between unarmed protesters and Israeli occupation forces entered the third day after waves of anger swept through Jerusalem and other parts of Palestinian territories, a result of Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
Ministry of Information affiliated to the Palestinian Authority reported that Dozens of journalists were injured while they were doing their work.
While covering the violent assault on protesters, journalists were attacked by Israeli security forces that fired tear gas bombs and rubber bullets at them, the ministry said.
It called on the International Federation of Journalists to set legal procedures in motion against Israeli forces who assaulted journalists on purpose in order to bar them from documenting their crimes against peaceful civilians.
It said all crimes targeting journalists were recorded as a form of aggression and the ministry would invoke the 2222 resolution pertaining to UN Security Council which aims to protect journalists against violence.
President Donald Trump had recognized the disputed city of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital last Wednesday, prompting mass protests against Israel in Jerusalem and other places in Palestine.
Trump’s decision was met with diplomatic backlash amid fears of new bloodshed in the Middle East.
On other respect, Palestinian Red Crescent said it had treated 80 people injured in the today’s clashes with Israeli security forces, but without announcing any death cases.
