Saudi monarch, President Abbas discuss ways to protect Jerusalem

Saudi monarch, Salman bin Abdul Aziz on discussed with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas developments and contacts related to the protection of Jerusalem after US President Donald Trump announced the recognition of the occupied city as the capital of Israel.

The Palestinian president praised the international consensus supporting the Palestinian people, rejecting the American declaration, praising the firm positions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia towards the Palestinian cause and the rights of the Palestinian people.

The PLO Executive Committee member, Wasel Abu Yousef, said in an interview, earlier that Abbas’s visit to Riyadh, aimed at coordinating Arab positions, before the next steps, which the Palestinian leadership intends to take.

“Arab, Islamic and international coordination is very important, before going to the General Assembly and the UN Security Council, to seek full membership of the State of Palestine, as well as to condemn and reject the decision of US President Donald Trump on Jerusalem,” Abu Yusuf said.

“We cannot offer such a step, without Arab, Islamic and international support, in order to achieve what we aim for,” he said.

Abu Yousef said that the visit, which was made by Abbas to Doha a few days ago, and the visits to Riyadh and Paris today, are “within the scope of support and support for the Palestinian position, especially in international organizations.”

The United States used the veto on the UN Security Council against an Egyptian draft resolution calling on Washington to reverse its decision on the sixth of this month to consider the occupied city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the transfer of the embassy to the city.
