Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal asserted on Sunday that lawmakers have no right to comment on the selection of MP Salah Hassaballah to be a media spokesman for the House of Representatives.
Also, the lawmakers cannot address any state body without permission from the parliament’s speaker, Abdel Aal stressed.
The article 119 of the constitution stipulates that the House of Representatives maintains its internal order, a responsibility that is assumed by the Speaker of the House, he said during a plenary session.
Article 8 of the house’s internal statute states that the speaker is the only person, who represents and speaks on behalf of the parliament, in accordance with the will of its members.
“There is a difference between the parliament’s speaker, who has the sole right to talk about any issue related to the House of Representative and the media spokesman, who is entitled to respond to what is being raised in mass media about the House of Representatives,” he added. (MENA)
