Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri met on Friday with UN Security Council envoy Ghassan Salama on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman, Ahmed Abu Zeid, said that the meeting dealt the latest developments on the Libyan arena and efforts to resolve the crisis.
The Foreign Minister expressed his concern over the disturbance of the security situation in some Libyan cities and the impact on the political process.
Shukri stressed Egypt’s support for the efforts of the United Nations in this regard and the importance of supporting all regional and international parties to these efforts, stressing that the final solution must stem from the will and consensus of the Libyan people.
Abu Zaid explained that Shukri listened to an integrated offer from the UN envoy to the results of his contacts with all Libyan parties, including Libya’s efforts to amend the Skhirat agreement and voter registration procedures in preparation for the upcoming elections with an increase of one million voters. .
The UN envoy also reviewed the planned moves during the next phase aimed at calming the situation in Libya and preparing the political arena for the elections. He also expressed his aspiration to support Egypt’s efforts through its strong and direct contacts with the actors in Libya.
In this context, the Foreign Minister reviewed the latest developments in the Egyptian efforts aimed at unifying the Libyan military institution to enable it to perform its duties in restoring security and stability and eradicating terrorism.
