The security situation in Afghanistan stabilized relatively after the cessation of fighting between Daesh terrorist group and the Taliban for several weeks in the province of Nangarhar (one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan and located in eastern Afghan on the Pakistani borders), but soon tension returned again with terrorism hitting the region. Clashes between what is known as Welayet Khursan which is the branch of Daesh in Afghanistan and the Taliban have been renewed two days ago, according to the Pajhwok Afghan News.
Khursan adopted this morning an attack on elements of the Taliban in the area Tabunau Directorate, according to the Afghan news agency. The attack killed six elements of the Taliban and wounded about 5 others.
In response to the Daesh elements, Taliban launched an attack on some Daesh strongholds in the region, according to Afghan news agency.
Nangarhar: The last hope
According to a recent report prepared by the Afghan site «Afghanistan Times», the Nangarhar is the last hope for Daesh in Afghanistan; to compensate for the heavy losses incurred in Syria and Iraq, especially that the region lies within the Afghan-Pakistan borders. This allows Daesh to enter easily to Afghanistan, which has a population of nearly one million people. It is considered one of the main strongholds of the Taliban movement, making it a zone of tension between Daesh and the Taliban as well as the cause of a permanent struggle for control.
The influence of Daesh in the Afghan region
The report pointed out that Daesh had a great influence in this region because it carried out many acts of violence and terrorism against the people of Nangarhar and the Taliban. It practiced the method of abuse and mutilation of the bodies of the elements of the movements that refused to join it, in addition to terrorizing and deporting those who refuse to work with it.
The Afghan site in its report said that a large number of elements of the Taliban announced their pledge to Daash under the lure of the huge funds owned by the organization of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The organization, the report added, has recently published a collection of pictures and videos through its media platforms, showing the torture of Taliban elements who fell prisoners in its hand, in addition to pictures of training camps for children and all this confirms its sovereignty and influence in the region.
“The province of Nangarhar is one of the most important Afghan provinces that the Taliban are occupying,” said Abdelkhabir Atallah, a professor of political science at Assiut University. “The Organization wants to take it over until it destroys the Taliban and proves that it is stronger than them,” he added.
Atallah said in a statement to the Reference that Nangarhar is close – by the borders – to Pakistan, adding that Daesh wanted to acquire this territory to establish a special state in Afghanistan and Pakistan together, and will not find any region more appropriate than this region to covet an investigation of its terrorist plans.
