The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched a qualitative operation on May 30 against Islamic State’s cells in southern al-Hasakah, Hawar News Agency reported.
Hawar said the SDF captured 15 elements of Islamic State’s cells in a joint qualitative operation with International Coalition south of al-Hasakah targeting several hideouts of the Islamic State, aka Daesh.
It said that the SDF had targeted a number of Daesh’s hideouts in northeastern Syria.
The SDF seized the Islamic State’s last stronghold on April 23 in Baghouz in the countryside of Deir Al Zor.
Researcher Hisham El-Naggar, an expert on Islamist movements, said that the United States “is showing support to its Kurdish allies in Syria”.
“This has weakened Turkey, which is backing the Islamic State, aka Daesh. Therefore, the SDF has been making advances lately,” El-Naggar told THE REFERENCE.
“The US government has changed its policy after deals with Turkey at the expense of the Kurds in Deir Al Zor. US President Donald Trump has changed the attitude towards Turkey. Therefore, Daesh has been defeated,” he said.
