Abdul Amir Rashid al-Jarallah, deputy commander of joint operations in the Iraqi army, announced the launch of a new military campaign against the remnants of the Daesh organization in the border areas with Syria.
The operation was initiated by the Iraqi army, with the participation of forces from the operations command of the island, Ninewa and Salaheddin, with the participation of large sections of the tribal crowd in the three cities and supported by the Iraqi air force.
“The operation is aimed at eradicating the Daesh cells in the provinces of Anbar, Ninewa and Salah al-Din, and extends up to the Iraqi-Syrian border,” the team confirmed. The operation will last for several days.
The Joint Operations Command issued a new statement on Sunday evening, saying that the operation of the island succeeded in destroying five dens of Daesh and extended the operations of Iraqi army divisions up to 10 kilometers behind the international border between Syria and Iraq.
The command, which is responsible for Operation Will of Victory, said that the Ninewa Operations Command succeeded in finding a camp for the tent containing supplies and equipment as well as detonated explosive devices and bicycles belonging to elements of the terrorist organization.
The Saladin Operations Command also found a number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and logistical items inside a number of bunkers used by terrorist operatives.
A number of Iraqi security experts said Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and the commander-in-chief of the Iraqi army had taken a decision to launch the operation because of information and links to the intention of a number of Daesh groups to attack Iraqi areas from inside Syria.
He has recently launched a series of terrorist attacks in the border areas of Syria and Iraq to convey a message to the world that he is still alive and has not yet ended his defeat in the Syrian village of Baguoz Faqani in late March.
The leader of the terrorist organization, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, called on individuals to support the tactics of the war of attrition, focusing on the lightning strikes and the temporary drop of cities, in addition to the economic depletion of the army forces and the Iraqi popular crowd by burning crops and property.
Since then, elements of the organization in Iraq have launched a number of attacks on points of the Iraqi army and police forces, and detonated explosive devices and car bombs against the ranks of the regular forces.
According to a previous report by the Reference, the terrorist organization benefited from the border areas between Syria and Iraq to restructure its forces and compensate for the losses received over the past period.
