Over the past week, Mauritania’s National Rally for Reform and Development (RND), has witnessed a number of events.
The Mauritania’s president Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani ignored the political oppositions and Muslim Brotherhood.
Ghazouani dialogue to normalize political life, coinciding with his government, led by Prime Minister Ismail Ould Sidya, won seats in parliament, which began its weekly activity statement of government policy, which left great satisfaction among the ruling party.
It is remarkable that Ghazouani received last week the leaders of the “Rashedoun” movement, which defected several months ago from the Muslim Brotherhood’s RND.
Divisions emerged when Mohammed Jamil Mansour, a former leader of RND, congratulated Ghazouani along with a large number of the organization’s leaders, while the party’s current leadership went in the opposite direction when it signed with a number of opposition parties a statement rejecting the election results.
Mansour also implicitly criticized Brotherhood leaders for their stance on supporting the presidential candidate, Prime Minister Mohamed Ould Boubacar.
Mansour’s series of blogs, Mauritania’s largest theorists, also dealt a severe blow to the organization’s internal unity and dealt him the biggest blow to his party since its inception in 2007.
In recent months, the splits in the organization have intensified after their party announced the continuation of support for the defeated candidate in the last presidential elections, Mohamed Ould Boubacar.
Mohamed Ezz El-Din, an African researcher, commented that the new conflict among the Brotherhood is the strongest because of its geographic nature and fueling the traditional differences between the movement’s currents competing for influence and domination.
He added in a statement to «reference» that the Muslim Brotherhood is currently living in an unprecedented state of splits and divisions, in addition to ignored by the Mauritanian President; which exposes them to further collapse, pointing out that this is the beginning of the end of the Brotherhood «continue».
The researcher specialized in African affairs that what is happening at the present time, within the party are wars of liquidation, and a reflection of the worsening crisis between two currents led by one of the current chairman of the party, while the other led by his former rival.
