The Iraqis have revolted against the Iranian-backed militias, which supporting Iran’s mullah regime at the expense of the Iraqi state.
The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert warned on Oct. 26 that armed entities sabotaging the peaceful demonstrations, eroding the government’s credibility and ability to act, cannot be tolerated.
She said: “The UN deeply regrets and condemns the further loss of life and injuries, and strongly denounces the destruction of public and private property during the latest waves of protests in Iraq”.
“The United Nations stand ready to assist, including by supporting the Iraqi authorities in their efforts to address legitimate demands for change: accountability and transparency, an end to corruption, improved public services, strengthened governance, and an environment that is conducive to growth and employment,” she added.
The United Nations praised the Iraqi government for forming a fact-finding committee, to investigate who is behind the killing of protesters. However, the UN has condemned cutting off the Internet service in many parts of Iraq.
