As Yemeni parties are seeking to sign an agreement in Riyadh, Iran-backed Houthi militias are seeking to undermine it. Yemen’s legitimate government and the Southern Transitional Council are seeking to sign an agreement, brokered by Saudi Arabia supported by the international community.
On Oct. 29, the Houthi militias tried to assassinate Yemen’s defense minister using drones attacking the Defense Ministry’s headquarters in Marib, east of Yemen.
Two soldiers were killed, while the defense minister survived. The Houthi militias killed a Yemeni military commander in August via a missile attack.
Colonel Yehia Abu Hatem, a Yemeni strategist, said that the Defense Ministry “has not officially announced yet that the Houthi militias were behind the attack.
“The Houthi militias have not claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, it is likely behind it,” Abu Hatem told THE REFERENCE.
“There are other parties in addition to the Houthis that do not want stability in Yemen through assassinations,” he added.
