In a bid to cut off Iran’s political and economic influence in Baghdad, Iraqi activists launched a campaign on Twitter on November 1, calling for a boycott of all Iranian products which are on sold the Iraqi market. The objective is to counter Iran’s interference in Iraq’s affairs.
The campaign is aimed at boycotting Iranian products. The activists say buying an Iranian product would help Iran buy a bullet to kill an Iraqi.
The mullah regime has devastated Iraq’s economy through the closure of nearly 1,000 factories, and destroyed the country’s livestock and fisheries by cutting water supply.
Political analyst Zeid al-Ayouby, an expert on Iranian affairs, said that the Iraqi popular campaign is aimed at boycotting Iranian products. “It will be an effective and painful tool used against the Persian project in Iraq,” al-Ayouby told THE REFERENCE.
“This is a key development for resisting Iran’s interference in Iraq’s internal affairs,” he said.
The analyst said the mullah regime has controlled Iraq’s ruling political elites and turned Iraq into a large market for the Iranian products.
“Iraq’s imports from Iran totaled $20 billion in 2018, while Iraqi exports to Iran stood at $60 million,” al-Ayouby said.
He added that the campaign would penalize Iran’s regime and activate the Iraqi economy.
