Daesh has appointed a new leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi, after the US confirmed the death of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who blew himself up during a raid.
Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi was named the new leader of the terrorist group via official propaganda channels.
In an audio message, Daesh also confirmed the death of spokesman Abu al-Hasan al-Muhajir – who was killed in a US airstrike.
Abu Hamza al-Qurashi, who delivered the message, was named as the new spokesman.
Despite his position as the spokesperson of Daesh, Qurashi’s real identity is still relatively unknown.
According to information obtained by The Reference, the new Daesh spokesman Abu Hamza al-Qurashi, is a terrorist from the Arabian Peninsula who joined Daesh in Iraq many years ago.
Al-Qurashi worked at the central media center that was supervised by Abu Mohamed al-Furqan, also known as Dr. Wael, an Iraqi pediatrician who was killed in an air-raid in 2016.
He was close to the former spokesperson of the organization and was managing Al-Hayah media foundation, which prepared and released Daesh’s statements in foreign languages.
He made a number of voice overs on important Daesh releases, including In-Side and Flames of War, which was released in late 2017.
Defectors from Daesh affirmed that al-Qurashi was one of the most prominent media figures of the terrorist organization.
So far, Daesh has not released any details or official information about its new leader, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi, or the new spokesman, Abu Hamza al-Qurashi.
