ISIS, aka Daesh, said in a post on its Telegram account that it would target political and military officials around the world via attacks carried out by lone wolves.
The Netherlands-based European Center for Counterterrorism and Intelligence Studies released a report on Nov. 15 saying that terrorist activity of ISIS declined in Europe, but it still remains a threat to the European countries.
The report has stressed the need to intensify coordination among the intelligence agencies of European countries, especially those countries that have potential suspicious elements.
Researcher Hisham El-Naggar, an expert on Islamist movements, said that ISIS is seeking to carry out terrorist attacks in Europe via Turkey.
“ISIS is taking advantage of the tension between Ankara and the European Union after Turkey invaded Syria,” El-Naggar told THE REFERENCE.
“Turkey is sending ISIS terrorists back to their home countries in Europe. Those terrorists will be able to carry out terrorist attacks in these countries,” he noted, adding that the Turkish authorities detain ISIS members for two or three days then repatriate them to their home countries.
“The Turkish authorities give them instructions to carry out terrorist attacks against countries which oppose Ankara,” he added.
