Yemen: Taiz rising up against control of Brotherhood on its institutions

Hundreds of students protested in the city of Taiz on Sunday, 10 November, to demand the evacuation of the schools Bakthir and Saba of the Brotherhood members stationed since 4 years, wanting to turn them into military barracks.

Local sources said that thestudents of the school Bakthir went out in an angry march, in protest against the refusal of the Muslim Brotherhood militants to evacuate their school, despite the announcement of all factions to evacuate government institutions, which hampered the study in the school.

The protesting students chanted slogans demanding the removal of the militants and refused to turn their classes into secret prisons of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Since the beginning of the war, Bakther has become an illegal prison belonging to the Brotherhood, which has taken control of the city, in addition to cases of torture of detainees inside the school.

The media official of the Nasserite Unionist Party, Mujib al-Maqtari, said that the escalation of the demonstrations came as a natural result to increase citizens’ awareness of the importance of defending their rights.

In contrast, the Muslim Brotherhood protesters threatened to use excessive force.

In October, protests by wounded people in Taiz against the Muslim Brotherhood escalated.

The protesters accused the Brotherhood of investing their suffering and neglect, demanding the dismissal of local authority and brigade commanders as the main reason for the continued suffering.

Saleh Abu Awadh, editor-in-chief of the Yemeni daily Al-Yom Al-Thamen, said in a statement to Al-Marab, “The pro-Brotherhood elements failed to manage state institutions significantly and transformed them from public to private premises in order to serve their interests.”

He continued that the black market economy grew at the expense of the basic service of the citizen, and the schools of education did not survive as they have been disrupted in favor of the proliferation of private schools.

The editor of the newspaper added that the suppression of demonstrations or waving the use of force reveals the fear and fragility of spoilers in the local and military authority, referring to the Muslim Brotherhood leaders in Taiz military axis.
