A number of European countries are undergoing extremism. The United Kingdom, France, Germany and Belgium will put in force new measures and strategies to combat extremism in 2020.
Marginalization is among the top reasons that fostered extremism in Europe. A number of studies showed that ignorance and Salafi women’s network are behind the phenomenon as well.
The Salafi women’ network was active on the social media to recruit European women for ISIS fighters.
The United Kingdom has taken a number of measures to counter extremism, including government monitoring and registration service. It also applied an anti-terrorism program – Prevent — to minimize the threats facing Britain. The program included 2,000 children and teenagers.
France issued a number of new laws to combat terrorism and extremism. The French parliament passed a law to combat hate on the Internet. The law obligates the deletion of any illegal content within 24 hours in addition to a fine up to 1.25 million euros.
In Germany, the government launched a new security plan to counter any potential attacks by conventional, nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons. The plan is also aimed at combatting hacker attacks on computer systems.
In April, the German government approved a draft bill to withdraw citizenship from individuals who are found involved with ISIS.
Belgium has taken a number of measures such as a ban on arms, in addition to the withdrawing of citizenship of individuals convicted of extremism.
