Thomas Berry, a French researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research, who specializes in Syrian affairs, considered that there are several real goals for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s move towards the invasion of Libya.
Berry told French radio “RFE” that Erdogan covets control of the Mediterranean’s fortunes and has a project for the geopolitical extension of Turkey in North Africa, in addition to financing terrorist groups in the region.
The French researcher said that Erdogan signed a military agreement at the end of November, with the Al-Wefaq militia headed by Fayez al-Sarraj, to enhance his support for the Tripoli government.
He added that “the Turkish invasion of Libya with respect to Ankara is an existential issue, to fulfill Erdogan’s ambitions in the eastern Mediterranean region,” explaining that “Erdogan has devoted his country’s efforts militarily and diplomatically, because the field is not open to rival countries in the region.”
“Before 2011, Ankara was investing $ 30 billion in Libya, as the Libyan market is Turkey’s gateway to Africa, so it is unreasonable for Erdogan to lose this market, and Ankara wants to increase its investments and exports to Libya, by playing with a card ready to participate in Reconstruction of Libya. ”
He pointed out to Erdogan’s statements that reveal his real intentions and ambitions, that there is no solution in Libya without Turkey, despite its geographical distance from it, explaining that “Ankara, which opposed NATO intervention in Libya in 2011, wants today to be part of the solution In the crisis, but in reality there are several political and economic goals for this invasion. ”
The French researcher pointed out that “Erdogan failed to mobilize international and regional support in his phantom battle to achieve his ambitions.” Algeria categorically opposes any military intervention in Libya. ”
One of the main reasons for Turkish intervention in Libya, according to Pierre, is the support and financing of terrorist groups, in particular the Brotherhood.
The French researcher pointed out that the overthrow of the Brotherhood in Tunisia, Egypt, Sudan and Syria contributed to accelerating the pace of its interference in Libya through the Saraj militia.
He continued: “Ankara has already started to send Syrian terrorists to Libya to establish a mercenary militia along the lines of the Free Syrian Army that Turkey established at the beginning of the Syrian crisis in 2011, which brings together a different armed militia.”
Berry said that talk of the birth of new terrorist organizations in Libya supported by Turkey to spread chaos and facilitate the Turkish invasion process, noting that these terrorist organizations and mercenaries are always used by Turkey for its regional ambitions.
