Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened to militarily interfere in Syria if the Syrian Arab army “did not withdraw” to areas behind the checkpoints in Idlib, north Syria.
As Erdogan continued his threats, the Syrian Arab army has advanced and continued its victories against the Turkish-backed terrorist militias. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Syrian Arab army had freed 30 villages within 60 hours.
A Syrian official was quoted as saying by the Syrian News Agency that Erdogan had made absurd and void threats.
Syrian activist Omar Rahmoun said on his Twitter account that there wouldn’t be any war between Turkey and Russia, pointing out that Ankara has no intention to defend its terrorist militias in Idlib.
Political analyst Mohamed Abul Nour said that Turkey and Russia had agreed to exclude any military clash in Syria. He noted that the two countries have already done everything possible to prevent that.
“Erdogan’s threats are logical to save his face before the Islamists, who have great confidence in him,” Abul Nour told THE REFERENCE.
Abul Nour wrote in an article, published by Al-Khaleej newspaper, that there are 3 scenarios for Erdogan.
According to the first scenario, the Syrian Arab army would withdraw in response to the Turkish threats. However, this scenario is dismissed, Abul Nour said, citing that Damascus would never do that.
According to the second scenario, there would be an all-out war. However, this would never happen as Erdogan cannot afford it.
In the third scenario, Erdogan would provide the terrorist militias with advanced arms, including anti-aircraft missiles, to stop the advance of the Syrian army.
