The national armies in the Arab countries constitute one of the most important pillars of stability and preventing Muslim Brotherhood schemes. The Algerian Army has its share of blocking and hindering Muslim Brotherhood endeavors to take over the country of one and a half million martyrs and merge it into the Turkish Ottoman empire.
During the stage of protests in the Algerian street against former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the Brotherhood tried to sow discord against the Algerian Army, to keep it from practicing its national role of preserving the safety of the country.
Last September, the Algerian army discovered and foiled a plot aimed at destroying the country; Military Chief Ahmed Gaid Salah was speaking to military officials at the sixth military zone in southern Algeria.
“The army’s leadership decided to confront the gang and its despicable plans,” he said, adding the military managed to preserve state institutions and its functioning.
The military leader, however, did not elaborate on the nature of the plot or the parties behind it.
Algeria has been in turmoil since Bouteflika stepped down on April 2 after 20 years in power, under pressure from mass protests demanding the removal of the ruling elite and the prosecution of people suspected of corruption.
During the popular movement in Algeria, the Muslim Brotherhood sought to target the Algerian army, most notably on March 6, 2019, as Abdel Razik Makri accused the chief of staff of the Algerian army of “protecting the regime of Bouteflika,” saying he was the only threat to Algeria. He even mocked how the Algerian Army deals with crises.
Algerians have been repeatedly demonstrating against figures belonging to Algerian Islamist movements, and especially the Muslim Brotherhood.
The Brotherhood’s targeting of the Algerian army did not succeed while the leadership of the Algerian army succeeded in reaching the country to safety and holding the presidential elections in December 2019, foiling the Brotherhood’s plan to ram the country into a cycle of instability and violence.
