Some German politicians believe that the far right stands behind the ongoing protests in their country, especially after it lost most of its popularity among ordinary German citizens.
The far right made itself scarce on the German political stage after the coronavirus crisis emerged. A recent survey has shown that the Alternative for Germany Party, by far the strongest right-wing party in Germany, has lost more than 10% of its electoral power. The party does not represent more than 9% of German voters, according to the survey.
The Coalition Berlin warned recently against what it described as new influential people within the far right and those who deny the Holocaust. It said these people are present among the demonstrators on German streets.
Those joining the protests with these people, the coalition said, make the protests more appealing to the German public.
This poses many dangers to Germany political future, the coalition added.
Chairman of the Parliamentary Control Committee Armin Schuster lashed out at the people participating in the protests.
I cannot understand, he said, why these people are participating in these protests at such a difficult time.
He added the federal government does its best to protect the privacy of German citizens.
The government also works hard to eradicate the coronavirus, which is a matter of utmost importance, he added.
More protests German police said in a statement on its website that it would allow protests to be organized in one place, provided that the number of the protesters does not exceed 50.
It underscored the importance of following health guidelines during the protests, including keeping a distance between the demonstrators. It noted that measures in this regard would be implemented as of May 4.
Nevertheless, German police is afraid of planned protests by the leftists, especially from potential violence.
