Head of the Sudanese Sovereign Council Abdul Fattah Al Burhan has warned in a televised interview against any attempts to sow discord within the Sudanese army, and from seeking coups aimed at foiling the transitional period.
In an interview with Sudanese TV broadcast on Saturday, 25 April 2020, Al-Burhan accused the Muslim Brotherhood of seeking to carry out a military coup to return to power again.
He also indicated the presence of certain political forces, which he did not name, trying to infiltrate the army through planting cells among its ranks.
These statements coincide with moves by the Muslim Brotherhood movement that would destabilize the transitional period by organizing demonstrations against the current authority.
Sudanese experts have stressed that Burhan’s warnings and measures against any attempted coups are only to strengthen mutual trust between the armed forces and the forces of the revolution.
This, according to observers, would hinder calls by the Muslim Brotherhood for a coup against the military organization.
Al-Burhan also stressed that Al-Bashir’s National Congress Party was the only one to be negatively affected by the armed forces being biased to the people of Sudan, therefore, they are seeking to destroy the country and spread chaos within the community.
Bashir was overthrown on April 11, 2019 by the military, which was responding to mounting public anger against his three decades of iron-fisted rule.
He was arrested and detained in a Khartoum jail and in December ordered to serve two years in a correctional center for corruption.
He still faces separate charges over the killing of protesters and the 1989 coup that brought him to power.
Authorities have also agreed that Bashir should stand trial before the International Criminal Court on charges of genocide and war crimes committed from 2003 in the Darfur conflict between the Arab-dominated government and ethnic minority African rebels.
While the Sudanese state is trying to control any possible repercussions of the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country, the terrorist organization has launched a campaign to spread rumors and advice against any government instructions, claiming that Sudan is immune to the pandemic due to its hot weather.
In addition, Brotherhood members demonstrated in Khartoum in violation of the preventive measures established by the government, in addition to organizing rallies and prayers in mosques.
On April 5, 2020, the transitional government announced revealing moves by some elements of the ousted Bashir’s regime to destabilize the situation in the country, and vowed to take swift and decisive measures to confront them.
The Sudanese Armed Forces has emphasized that the military organization is an integral part of the Transitional Sovereign Council, noting its cohesion and commitment to the transitional period.
