Muslim Brotherhood (MB) members are spreading rumors on social media to question the integrity of measures taken by the Egyptian government to contain the COVID-19
The Muslim Brotherhood has been attempting to manipulate people by underestimating the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and undermining the series of preventive measures such as closing down mosques to avoid crowdedness.
Egypt’s Dar-alifta said it will temporarily close mosques as part of efforts to stem the spread of COVID-19.
The Muslim Brotherhood has considered the decision by the government to be “malicious” and originally intends to control the religious scene in the country.
Some extremist and fanatical preachers issued counter fatwas claiming that the suspension of prayers and sermons helped the spread of the virus, it being a manifestation of divine wrath for deviating from God’s Law that only struck non-believers. The counter fatwas have lured some believers into doing exactly the opposite of what government and health authorities advise.
Brotherhood has alleged that the closure of mosques and suspension of prayers are decisions that require reconsideration, referring that such decisions come within a war against religion.
Also, controversial Mafti Sadiq Al-Gharini has also strongly rejected the decision to temporarily close mosques and halt congregational prayers.
The Muslim Brotherhood is constantly seeking to hit the state circles by questioning the decisions issued by the Ministry of Endowments.
Wagdi Ghoneim, a Salafi preacher close to the Muslim Brotherhood, announced: “I ask people to worship collectively in the streets in front of the mosques.” Salafi sheikhs in Alexandria issued similar calls. Some also advocated religious processions, a call supported by some Muslim Brotherhood leaders abroad as part of their bid to exploit the crisis, attract new followers and pressure ruling regimes.
All Egypt mosques are urged to close. The Muslim Brotherhood is against this. Deemed a “punishment” against unbelievers, the outbreak is now a “test” to purify Muslims. Solidarity is growing irrespective of race, religion and nationality. This is an opportunity to pray for all humanity.
