The Libyan National Army (LNA) is fighting an all-out war against Turkey as it competes to wrest control of Libya from the Turkish-backed and U.N.-recognised government in Tripoli, the LNA’s spokesman said.
The LNA is fighting the Turkish army with all of its land, sea and electronic means, Syrian government-affiliated news site Al Masdar News quoted the LNA’s spokesman, Ahmed al-Mismari, as saying at a press conference.
Turkey signed a deal with the Tripoli government in November that has seen Turkish soldiers deployed to Libya, where shipments of Turkish military hardware and drones have helped the capital withstand the assault from the eastern-based LNA.
International media reported that Turkey had also flown in thousands of its Syrian rebel allies to bolster Tripoli’s manpower.
“The Syrian mercenaries in Libya are undergoing great losses, and Turkish intelligence is ready to publish any fake news with the aim of distracting them from their heavy losses,” said Mismari at the press conference.
Meanwhile, Libyan Member of Parliament Ali Al-Takbali announced that the Turks imposed new traditions on the militias in Libya, the most important of which is the militarization of public facilities, indicating that terrorist groups are hiding their weapons in hospitals, universities, and mosques, and when the army bombs them, they claim that they are civilian centers, and they have the right to hide in them.
Al-Takbali added that the people of Tripoli are aware of the truth of these armed militias, but the world unfortunately closes its eyes, accusing the Turkish regime of not excluding an instrument or means, no matter how religiously prohibited and legally prohibited and morally unacceptable, in working to achieve its goals, while relying on its horns and the trumpets of its allies to falsify facts, Data are overturned.
On April 23, 2020, the Ashraf and Almoravid tribes in the east of the country announced their support for the leader of the national army to manage the affairs of the country and fight the mercenaries, and on April 28, the Tarhuna tribes announced their acceptance of Haftar’s invitation and his delegation to lead Libya, and before them the Burqa tribes and some tribes in the western region supported the national army’s actions to repel Mercenary militia.
Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s call showed the presence of a lineup of Libyan tribes to confront the Turkish and Brotherhood incursion into the country, and also weakened the Turkish scenario seeking to divide the country into east and west.
