Mauritania announced on Saturday, May 6 that it has received 18 tons of medical and food supplies from the UAE to face the corona virus pandemic.
This came as part of Abu Dhabi’s humanitarian and health efforts to face the global corona pandemic. Since the crisis began, the UAE has extended a helping hand to a large number of countries around the world to help them overcome this crisis.
According to the official Emirates News Agency (WAM), the shipment of aid consisted of healthy foodstuffs to strengthen immunity, in addition to medical masks, antibiotics, vitamins, nutritional supplements and other medicines.
WAM confirmed that this aid reached hospitals and poor families who needed it most.
Mauritanian Health Minister Mohamed Nedhirou Ould Hamed said that this assistance confirms the UAE’s commitment to Mauritania’s efforts to combat the virus, adding, “Our country was in need of this medical assistance, and it came at an appropriate time.”
Emirati Ambassador to Mauritania Hamad Ghanim Al-Muhairi said that the aid came within the framework of global cooperation and solidarity to curb the spread of the virus, as well as to work together to overcome these difficult conditions.
This is the second shipment that the UAE has sent to Mauritania, as it also sent a plane carrying 18 tons of medical and food aid in mid-April.
Managing these relief convoys is part of the UAE’s efforts to face the corona pandemic globally, as it has succeeded in establishing a pioneering model to face crises, as it dealt with the repercussions of the virus thanks to the efforts of all concerned parties and workers to protect health safety and various members of society.
To date, the UAE has sent more than 730 tons of aid to more than 64 countries, benefiting about 730,000 health workers.
