UAE supports Peru with medical and food aid to face corona

The United Arab Emirates has been keen to extend a helping hand to all countries around the world, believing in its humanitarian duty to relieve the burdens facing various governments due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 corona virus, confirming Abu Dhabi’s established humanitarian approach in its policies.

On Friday, June 26, the UAE sent a plane containing 15 tons of food and medical aid to Peru to help it overcome the corona pandemic. This is the first batch of aid allocated for Peru, amounting to 40 tons.

This cooperation comes as part of the Document on Human Fraternity for World Peace and Living Together that was signed in Abu Dhabi in February 2019 by Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayyeb and Roman Catholic Pope Francis.

The aid to Peru aims to help those in need in the city of Iquitos, which has a population of more than 400,000 people and is located along the Amazon River. This is a continuation of the UAE’s efforts to strengthen the capabilities of countries’ health systems and to provide support to those in need around the world to overcome the corona crisis.

Jassim Saif Al Shamsi, Chargé d’Affaires at the UAE Embassy in Lima, said that the aid comes within the framework of Abu Dhabi’s continued keenness to lend a helping hand to countries suffering from the corona crisis as part of the Emirati political leadership’s goal to unify international efforts to combat the virus and its repercussions, which constitute a danger to humanity.

It is noteworthy that the UAE has previously provided more than 995 tons of aid to more than 69 countries around the world as part of Abu Dhabi’s humanitarian initiatives to support brotherly peoples and emphasize a firm humanitarian approach.

The UAE’s initiatives also assisted the World Health Organization by providing a number of countries with antiseptics, medical supplies and relief materials, as aid has been sent to China, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somaliland, Colombia, Seychelles, Italy, Kazakhstan, Sudan, Cyprus, Bangladesh, Sierra Leone, Mali, Kurdistan, Iraq, the Philippines, Nepal, Ethiopia, South Africa, Indonesia, Armenia, and Mauritania.

This comes on the basis of the directives of the UAE’s leadership to provide all capabilities to confront the corona virus at home and abroad by increasing testing units at home and providing support and assistance to friendly countries.
