The United Arab Emirates’ stance in support of the Palestinian cause is one of the pillars of the state’s foreign policy. Since its establishment, Abu Dhabi has played a prominent role in supporting the Palestinian people in trying to regain their legitimate rights based on a realistic policy, far from the strategy of cheap rhetoric adopted by some countries.
Following a phone call between US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, on Thursday, August 13, it was announced that Israel would stop its plan to annex Palestinian lands, which gained the support of the UAE.
The achievement of this historic agreement that prevented Israel from annexing the Jordan Valley and settlements in the West Bank, estimated at about 30% of the West Bank, is clear evidence of the UAE’s diplomatic wisdom and an embodiment of the principles of tolerance, coexistence and spreading a culture of peace and love among the peoples of the world.
Bridging the rift
This historic agreement highlights the leadership role of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the local, regional and international levels to bridge rifts, reconcile and bring views closer to the security and stability of the region. He has been a constant initiator of stopping conflicts between countries, quelling strife, and striving for reconciliation in search of world peace to preserve humanity and dignity.
Arab reactions
The agreement has been met with supportive Arab reactions, most notably Egypt, Bahrain, Mauritania and Oman. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi confirmed that it would help promote peace in the Middle East region, while Bahrain offered its sincere congratulations to the UAE for completing this step and affirmed that it would lead to positive results for the entire region. Meanwhile, Mauritania affirmed its support for the UAE in the stances it takes in accordance with its national interests, the interests of Arabs and Muslims, and just causes. Oman also expressed its support for the UAE’s decision, stressing that it will contribute to achieving a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
