Turkish journalist Murat Yetkin commented on President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s announcement that a natural gas field has been discovered in the Black Sea, with reserves estimated at 320 billion cubic meters.
The Turkish journalist said in statements highlighted by the Turkish newspaper, “Zaman,” that all experts and scientists assert that production will be in the range of 5-10 billion cubic meters annually, equivalent to about 10-20% of Turkey’s annual consumption.
He explained that this percentage should not be expected to generate large income for citizens, or be reflected in their lives, and that estimates indicate that this reserve is sufficient to cover Turkey’s natural gas needs for a period of 6-7 years only, stressing that this disclosure is not considered effective.
