The aid provided by the United Arab Emirates to Sudan’s flood victims was widely praised for Abu Dhabi’s unlimited humanitarian support provided to Khartoum.
Red Crescent’s major role
In a statement issued by the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Khartoum thanked the UAE for its efforts to aid Sudan in its crisis, as the Emirates Red Crescent Authority provided food, medical and shelter assistance to rescue those affected by the effects of the floods.
In his statements, Dr. Mohammed Ateeq Al-Falahi, Secretary-General of the authority said that the UAE is making great efforts with the Sudanese partners to help them overcome the repercussions of the crisis after it reached about 16 states.
Meanwhile, UAE Ambassador to Sudan Hamad Mohammed Al-Junaibi praised the leadership and people of Abu Dhabi standing with the Sudanese people in all cases and circumstances, stressing that the UAE’s humanitarian and development presence in Sudan is nothing new, but has rather continued for decades, not linked to any specific disaster or crisis.
Junaibi pointed out that the UAE is one of the first countries to respond to the current disaster and is currently providing the necessary assistance in various fields through its humanitarian arm, the Emirates Red Crescent, as well as other Emirati organizations and associations.
Throughout Sudan’s history of floods, the UAE has been among the countries that provide humanitarian support to Khartoum, revealing the UAE’s awareness of Sudan’s needs in the current crisis.
Sudan is exposed to frequent flooding at the same time every year, but the intensity of the floods increased this year, which destroyed many homes and villages, disrupted life, and killed dozens.
It is noteworthy that the UAE sent a delegation to Khartoum from the Red Crescent, headed Mohammed Salem Al-Junaibi, who is currently in Sudan, to lead the operations of the relief agency and supervise the delivery of aid to those who need it in a number of states most affected by the flood disaster.
