The activities of al-Bawaba’s seminar on the fight against terrorism and extremism in the Arab region in cooperation with the embassy of UAE in Cairo have started in the great hall at the headquarters of the Foundation.
The seminar will focus on Egypt and the UAE as models for the fight against terrorism and extremism.
The event will aim to throw light on the dangers this phenomenon poses to security and stability in Arab societies.
The seminar is part of efforts to raise awareness among Arab youth about the dangers of terrorism and extremism and means of fighting them.
Seminar discussions will derive from the belief that the eradication of terrorism cannot be done through the force of arms only, but will require an active role by the cultural elite, in general.
This elite will have to play a major role in spreading moderate thinking among the members of the public.
Speaking in the seminar will be Egyptian Member of Parliament Abdel Rahim Ali who is the board chairman and the editor-in-chief of al-Bawaba News and the director of the Center for Middle East Studies in Paris.
Acting Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates in Cairo, Councilor Mariam Khalifa al-Kaabi, will also speak in the gathering, along with Egypt’s former foreign minister, Mohamed al-Orabi and Muneer Adib, a prominent terrorism researcher and the director-general of the editorial board of al-Bawaba News.
A host of officials from the UAE embassy in Cairo will also participate in the seminar, along with a large number of terrorism and extremism experts, politicians and officials from different Arab countries.
