A year of failures: Erdogan brining his country into collision with other countries (2-4)

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is bringing his country a record number of crises and problems. He is provoking the international community, which is also bringing sanctions to Turkey from the European Union and the United States.

Silly behavior

Erdogan was paid appropriately before 2020 came to an end as a result of his silly policies.

The United States imposed sanctions on several officials of the Turkish Ministry of Defense, including the head of the agency responsible for Turkey’s arms purchases.

This came after Ankara insisted to move ahead with the purchase of the Russian $400 missile system.

The sanctions included a ban on licenses to Turkey’s arms exports and against the entry to the United States by a number of Turkish officials.

Ankara was also excluded from a joint program for the development of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II aircraft.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said his country would apply the law to the letter and would not tolerate any deals with the Russian intelligence and defense sectors.

The European Union also imposed sanctions on a host of Turkish companies and officials against the background of exploration by Turkey of natural gas in the Eastern Mediterranean.

This is the first time the EU imposes sanctions on a country nominated to become one of its members.

This signals rejection inside the European continent to Turkish policies, especially when it comes to the exploration of natural gas off the coasts of both Greece and Cyprus.
