The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) tries to make a comeback, using desert areas in some parts of Iraq to achieve this goal.
This terrorist organization is aware that security forces will find it difficult to control these areas. This is why it keeps operating in them without problems.
Iraqi security forces try, meanwhile, to eradicate ISIS remnants and tighten control on Iraq’s border with neighboring Syria.
The border area between the two countries has turned into a safe refuge for ISIS cells, despite the deployment of Iraqi army troops along the border.
Unstoppable flood
The international coalition against ISIS and Iraqi security forces make huge efforts to stamp out the terrorist organization. However, these efforts seem to bear little fruit.
Deep under the failure of Iraq’s efforts to eradicate ISIS is the presence of distrust between the security establishment, the Iraqi army and military units affiliated to the Kurdistan region in northern Iraq.
This lack of trust contributes to the presence of a security vacuum in some parts of Iraq, one that is usually used by ISIS to expand its presence and return to the Iraqi stage.
According to Spokesman of the Iraqi Armed Forces Yahia Rasol, the security forces had recently raided an area southern the northern city of Mosul.
He added in a statement that the raid was launched after intelligence proved the presence of ISIS fighters in this area.
