Greek authorities will press charges against two Greek citizens accused of spying for Turkey, Agence France Presse reported.
The investigation was conducted in close cooperation with Greece’s National Intelligence Service (EYP), AFP cited the police as saying in a statement on Saturday.
Both men were working on the Greek island of Rhodes, located in the eastern Mediterranean.
One was working at the Turkish consulate in Rhodes. The other was working on a ferry between Rhodes and the tiny island of Kastellorizo, Greece’s most easterly island just off the Turkish coast and a source of escalating tensions between Ankara and Athens over access to maritime waters.
CNN Greece reported that the man working on the ferry had been reporting the position of Greek Navy ships, as well as other information about Greek army forces on the islands to the other suspect, according to AFP.
